What is a web host?
The domain host stores the files for your website. This is different then the domain registry where you buy the name.com. For example if you want to install word press, you need a host to store the files and install the program.
The default way most people buy a host is to simply buy a hosting account from the same place that they buy their .com because it is easy, simple, makes linking the domain with the hosting account built in, and people probably don't know any better that you don't need to buy your hosting account from the same place you buy your .com
The truth is, companies are great and offer the best value and performance for whatever they specialize in. Therefore, the best registry is not necessarily the best host. This is why I get my registry from name cheap and my hosting from host gator.
Some of the factors you need to think about before you buy a host is the price, cost and available added features, uptime or the amount of time the servers are working so your website is up, and the terms of service which lists the type of websites you are allowed to host on the site.
Just because a hosting server is cheaper or well-known, does not necessarily mean they are the right choice. Because, the first year may be cheap but the following years may be more expensive than the competition.
Furthermore, you will need additional services in the future attached to your hosting account and the "cheaper" hosting company may charge you an arm and a leg for these added services.
Or, they charge you a low price for a low bandwith, but as soon as your website is successful and gets traffic they quickly shut down your site forcing you to buy a dedicated server or at least an upgraded plan and charge you a lot more.
